About Dr. Elbers
Dr. Elbers is a trauma-sensitive neurologist who specializes in the neurophysiology of stress and trauma. While working at Stanford as a pediatric neurologist for 6 years, she often saw patients with multiple, unexplained symptoms including sleep problems, executive dysfunction, dysautonomia, chronic pain, digestive problems and psychiatric symptoms.
Through her own research, Dr. Elbers identified a clinical profile, which she termed nervous system dysregulation, that was significantly associated with adverse childhood experiences and other causes of chronic stress. Through her private practice, Dr. Elbers uses a holistic approach with patients presenting with multiple, chronic medical symptoms, helping to identify potential medical causes, but also exploring how chronic stress or traumatic events may be contributing to a patient’s symptoms.
Dr. Elbers is also trained in several interventional therapies aimed at regulating the nervous system to help patients achieve symptom resolution and improve their quality of life.
